cool climate concrete carbon dioxide offset program |
According to Ash at Work magazine, one of the best ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from concrete production — up to 15 million tons per year in the United States alone — is to use coal ash rather than portland cement. Concrete made with coal ash is stronger, more durable, and reduces the amount of coal ash sent to landfills.
Because of our commitment to the economic and environmental sustainability goals of the concrete industry as a whole and our own sustainability goals specifically, Kuert participates in the Cool Climate Concrete (C3) Program, a carbon dioxide offset program sponsored by The Climate Trust. As a participant, we must continually reduce our portland cement usage, meaning we are also reducing our carbon footprint ... which benefits our community and our world. Kuert's production reports on the concrete involving coal ash are provided to The Climate Trust quarterly; they are also available to the public upon request.
